After taking part in 2 hours of Kyu gradings 2 Samurai students then undertook their Dan Grading November 2020. They covered Beginners syllabus to 1st Kyu Syllabus during this time. However now was the time to perform.

DAN GRADING NOVEMBER 2020

Dan Grading  November 2020 consisted of 3 main elements. Firstly Kihon which are Basic techniques and combinations. Secondly Kata, set pattern of movement. In addition to Kumite, performing defences against a range of attacks. Due to the restrictions we are currently facing with regard to physical contact we are focusing very much on the technical element.

During a tough examination students had to show good technique in addition to great spirit. Above all an understanding of what they are doing is most important.

The OSKA Dan Grading panel consisted of one 5th Dan and two 3rd Dan appointed grading officials. With an independent observer to oversee events. The decision of the panel was to award Dan Grade passes with Merit to two students.

Susan Powel achieved Nidan in addition to Amber Crossley-King, age 11 achieving her Junior Shodan. Both ladies have  worked extremely  hard all year preparing for this. They are excellent examples of Dan Grade Karate-Ka.

Susan  has made the step up from Shodan and has been a life long Karate-Ka. Furthermore Susan has now become an important member of the Samurai Coaching team.

Amber has excellent potential to become a very good Senior Dan Grade.  She has an excellent spirit and demonstrates this having competed against the boys in Kumite, and won.
